ℯNEWS JUly 5, 2024

In our penultimate week of the year, we have completed a very full timetable with a series of exciting events and activities.

Monday Morning Assembly

Our week commenced with a highly informative and inspiring assembly on string instruments by our violin teacher, Mr. Hutchinson. He has graciously offered free taster violin lessons for any pupil interested in trying the violin. For those that have signed up, we will endeavour to schedule as many trial lessons as possible next week.

School Performance of 'The Wind in the Willows'

On Wednesday afternoon, we witnessed the much-anticipated school performance of 'The Wind in the Willows.' The children’s performance was superb, from our youngest pupils in the junior choir to our lead characters from Form Six. Each and every pupil shone brightly. A particularly moving moment was a surprise performance of a school anthem for Mrs. Hampton, filled with sentiments that perfectly encapsulate our school’s ethos of kindness and community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Butcher and Mrs. Deshayes for their spectacular props and to all parents for providing wonderful costumes.

Thursday's Olympic Themed Day

Thursday morning started with another whole school assembly, this time led by head of Games, Mr. Shanahan, who introduced our Olympic themed day. His assembly, complete with photographs and videos of various opening ceremonies, was truly inspiring and aptly introduced the significance of this elite sporting event.

School Fair

Our parent committee took charge of a sensational school fair at the VSC this afternoon. Highlights included face painting by Anna from Magic Eyes, and delicious ice cream and waffles from Unico Gelato and Creams. Our creative parents manned wonderful stalls for the children to enjoy. The children’s and adult tombola was a hit, with a steady line of eager customers and not a single prize left unclaimed by the end of the day. We offer our particular thanks to the donors & sponsors of this event: Hampton International, The Victory Services Club, Camden Boxing Club, Lurra Basque Grill, Townhouse, Paul, Pizza Express, Greyhound, Supreme Ballers, F45 Training, Buchanan's Cheesemongers, PM Flowers, Daunt Books, Faeger Shop and The A Academy.

The funds raised will go towards our school Bursary and Hardship Funds, as well as the children’s chosen charity, St Mary's Paddington Hospital Charity. It was a triumphant fundraiser to end the week on a high. Our sincere thanks to our Parent committee, expertly managed by Mrs Canalda, for orchestrating such a fine event. Final figures are not fully in, but a total of £1050 was raised this afternoon on the door.

Special Mentions

It was wonderful to welcome Suhana (class of 2020) back to CHS for her work experience. Thank you for being a great support Suhana. Congratulations to former pupil Hannah who has recently been awarded two prizes from Francis Holland North Senior School. One for overall achievement during the term and one Academic Prize in German. Bravo Hannah (Class of 2022). We are looking forward to welcoming back last year's Form Six pupils next Tuesday.

Reminders for Next Week

Form Six Trip

Pupils in Form Six will meet at Victoria Station on Monday morning at 7:45 am for their secret trip with Mrs. Hampton, Mr. Garvey, and Ms. Arthur. We look forward to reporting on this adventure next week.

Junior Science Field Trip

Children from Junior One to Form Two will be heading to the Look Out Centre for a science field trip on Monday morning. They will be leaving school at 9:30am and will be at school in time for lunch.

Final School Day

Tuesday will be our final normal school day. All children should bring a spare named plastic bag to take home their school trainers, aprons, and park coats as well as any remaining work. Exercise books and school library books must all be returned by Tuesday at the latest please.

Prize Giving

Wednesday morning will be our last morning at school, with prize giving (for pupils only) being held in Connaught Square. A reminder that prizes are awarded based on competition results, house points, gold star awards, work ethic, progress and nominations from teachers and specialist staff. They are not to be confused with presents; unfortunately, there will not be a prize for every pupil. However, each child will receive a certificate of achievement and an acknowledgement from the school for their hard work this academic year.

Artwork of the Week

Amy in Form Six, for creating a brilliant bird puppet. Excellent use of clay and textiles, well done Amy!

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to an exciting conclusion to the school year next week.
