Women in History - Assembly
We kicked off the week celebrating International Women’s Day with an assembly led by Mrs Wells. The assembly delved into the recognition of significant women in history, including Harriet Tubman, Greta Thunberg, and Amelia Earhart. We aimed to foster a sense of appreciation for the contributions of these remarkable individuals.
Equally important to this assembly was an exploration of the UN convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 2 and the discussion led to embracing equity, conveying the message that at CHS, we embrace diversity and inclusion.
Virtual Coffee Morning - Online Safety
Mrs Hampton was delighted to introduce Gareth Court from SWGFL on Thursday morning to a large selection of our parent community who joined our Virtual Coffee Morning on online safety. With so much to cover Mr Court extended the hour session and we were still discussing the topic a full hour and a half later. Key takeaways from this session was the importance of listening to our children when they get into any issues online before offering any sort of assistance or criticism as well as including regular conversation with our children on all areas of online activity. In short, in this fast moving world of technological advancement we really do need to educate our children on how to stay safe online and how to ask for help when things go wrong as opposed to preventing our children from accessing it. Upcoming
CHS Book Week - 4th - 8th March 2024
To launch CHS Book week, children are invited to bring in their favourite book on Monday for assembly to share with the school community.
Dressing up and bringing books into school is also a big part of Book Week celebrations and is something that the children particularly enjoy. We invite the children to dress up on Wednesday 6th March as a character or even a setting from a book they have enjoyed. This is an exciting way for children to get book recommendations from each other. It is important your child can tell their classmates about who or what they are dressed as and what book it comes from; even if it’s just a prop or a clue make sure your child is recommending something to read with their costume. During Dress Up Day, children will be taking part in a range of activities hosted across the age range - a great way to bring our community together.
We will be welcoming author Zohra Nabi on Tuesday 5th March and James Allen on Thursday 7th March. Both authors will be running workshops where they will be reading to the children, telling them about the process of writing as well as hosting a Question and Answer session.
Poetry Recital - Friday 8th March, 2.30 pm
Following the Poetry competition this week, as mentioned above, we will conclude the upcoming CHS Book Week with a Poetry Recital at the Carisbrooke Hall, located in The Victory Services Club next door to us. This is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the beautiful poems our children have dedicated time and effort to perfect. Each class will perform their class poem as well as a selection of the children who were commended by Mr Bashaarat, our judge this year.
Please note the children should be wearing their school uniform, not their PE kits on Friday for the Poetry Recital.
*Please note this is not a suitable event for babies or toddlers as the children have worked hard to prepare for this recital.*
Second-Hand Book Sale - Friday 8th March 2024, 2pm
The CHS Parents Committee will organise a second-hand book sale before and after the Poetry Recital on Friday 8th March 2024 at The Carisbrooke Hall.
We invite you all to contribute by bringing in donations of children's books in good condition to school during the week beginning Monday 4th March (ideally on Thursday please, small office request). These books will be sold during the event, and any remaining books will be donated to the Children's Book Project. As usual, the proceeds from the sale will go towards the CHS Bursary Fund and UNICEF.

Form Two will be donning their dancing shoes on Wednesday 20 March for their Open Dance. Parents and guardians are welcome to view the progress the children have made during their dance lessons with Miss Shannon. Further details to follow.
