Exciting ISA Poetry Competition News
Last term, some children from Forms Two – Six, tried their hand at writing their own poems for a National Poetry competition, run by ISA (Independent Schools Association). The theme of the poetry competition was Hope.
There was a very strict limit on the number of entries allowed from any one school. Among the entries from CHS, was a poem by Luca in Form Three. His poem entitled ‘I Hope…’ was chosen for the Highly Commended award in the Year Two - Three category, across entrants from many schools. Luca received a written response from the adjudicator, Debra Bertulis (from Poetry Society, Poet in Schools Society of Authors), which was brimming with accolades for his poetic creativity:
‘… This is a highly imaginative and descriptive poem that makes us feel like we are there too. You made me laugh too…’
Well done, Luca and keep writing!
Form Five boys visit to Wetherby Senior School for a Science Afternoon
On Wednesday, having been invited to a Science afternoon, Form Five boys set off to Wetherby Senior School. Charlie Ilya, Saif, Ivan and Maxi had a scintillating time (alongside some pupils from other guest schools) participating in a series of entertaining and edifying experiments.
First on the agenda was the creation of a gas, using yeast, sugar and water. The gas made its presence known by gradually inflating the balloon, fastened to the bottle containing the yeast and water.
Next came a mind-bending activity involving an egg, a flame and a glass bottle, demonstrating beyond doubt, the powerful force of air pressure around us. The children witnessed the exciting phenomenon of an egg being pushed into the narrow-necked bottle solely by the force of air above and around it. They got the chance to try it for themselves and Ilya and Saif attained the glory of being the first in the room to succeed in the eggtastic challenge.
The thrills continued in a challenge to make their own straw rockets and launch them with the force of air. It was a very exciting afternoon, filled with a balanced dose of hot air and good fun.
Form Five 11+ Talk
Mrs Walsh, Mr Garvey, Ms Stock & Mrs Hampton formed a panel at our Year Five, 11+ What To Expect meeting on Monday afternoon. With so much information to share the meeting ran over and we thank the parents for giving us so much of their afternoon.
Mrs Hampton’s visit to KPS
A 20-minute stroll through the park took Mrs Hampton to Kensington Park School to meet with the new Headmaster, Antony Faccinello. With 10+ years in Senior Leadership roles at prestigious co-educational schools, including Alleyn’s and Forest School. He has an exciting vision for where he is going to take KPS in the next five to seven years, a vision that resonates with our school view that prioritises personalised learning, in small class sizes. We look forward to welcoming Mr Faccinello to CHS in the coming weeks.

CHS Big Read event in Hyde Park
On Friday 7th June, CHS will be hosting a Big Read event in Hyde Park as a finale to the Readathon. The last event was a huge success raising over £2000 for our chosen charity. This year, we will be fundraising for the Children's Book Project. The project prioritises stopping book waste and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to enjoy books and stories with their families. We will be sending out a link to our JustGiving page next week.
