Good work Assembly
Mrs Hampton started the week with a wonderful Good Work assembly on Monday. Children from across the school presented and described their work to the rest of the school. From Junior One's superb 3D fire engines to Form Six's geometric optical illusions, and some wonderful creative writing, Latin, and science work in between. Mimi from Form Five had us all spellbound with a beautiful rendition of Nocturne by Lili Boulanger on the violin that she will be playing in the upcoming final round of the Independent Schools Young Musician competition in Oxfordshire next week. On behalf of all of us at CHS, we wish Mimi the very best of luck.
Junior One Parent Talks
This week, Junior One enjoyed welcoming two of the mummies into the class to visit. They were delighted to take turns being photographers as well as asking excellent questions about what it is like to be an architect. All of this is to support the unit the class is exploring. In the coming weeks, we hope to welcome more J1 parents to share the different jobs they do.
Head Teacher visit
With the Elizabeth Line opening up more possibilities for schooling outside of London, Form Five welcomed Elaine Purves, the Head Teacher from Queen Anne's School Reading, on Thursday afternoon. A flurry of intelligent and well-thought-out questions regarding what life at a boarding school was actually like were asked and answered, and we look forward to introducing Elaine to interested Senior Parents in one of the Summer Term virtual coffee mornings
Artwork of the week
Eitan in Junior One, for some fantastic printmaking inspired by Piet Mondrian. Excellent use of line, shape and primary colours, well done Eitan!

Unicef Assembly
Mrs Wells is going to kick off the week by talking about Martin Luther King Day (15 January) and linking Articles One and Two of the Conventions on the Rights of the Child.
Open Swim
Parents of pupils from Forms Four to Six are warmly invited to join to view the children’s final swimming lesson on Friday afternoon. Similar to Open Dance sessions, our Open swim lessons showcase the progress the children have made in their weekly lessons at the local Leisure Centre.
After half term, Forms Two and Three will take to the water, and we recommend that bottle green swimwear is sought now to ensure that your child is ready for their first lesson on Friday 23 February.
School Excursion
Our little chefs in Junior One: The children in J1 are in for a treat on Friday. As part of their Topic Unit on jobs in the community, they will be venturing to Pizza Express, where they will be shown how the chefs prepare and make their delicious pizzas. Lucky children will then have their own pizza to enjoy for a tasty treat back at school.
Up-coming competitions
We are delighted to be sending children from Forms Four to Six to compete in The Quiz Club 4, a General Knowledge competition at The Hall School on Tuesday. Following the success of last year, we are pleased to be sending two teams south of the park to compete in The Cicero Cup Debating competition at Frances Holland South. Good luck, teams!
Parent Meetings
Parent meetings will take place on Monday 5 & Tuesday 6 February. You will have the opportunity to talk to your children’s Form teachers about their progress at school. Please bear in mind that these sessions are 15 minutes long, appointments are arranged on a tight schedule and so we ask parents to please arrive on time. If you miss the allocated slot it will not always be possible for your meeting to take place. Form Six will have their parent meetings after half term.
Important: Carnival Day
On Friday 9th February the school will be celebrating our Carnival Day.
On this day, the children are split up into small groups across year groups and take part in fun 'workshop' activities based around a theme. The activities have a creative and team-building focus.
We are asking the children to get creative, step out of their uniform and dress up to reflect our theme for this year which is 'The Natural World'. Their costumes could be as simple as coming in clothes reflecting the natural world - shades of blue for a river or waterfall perhaps or a headband of flowers or they could be more elaborate and come as a particular plant or an erupting volcano. Please do not feel the need to go and purchase a costume, creativity and imagination is the order of the day. It would be a great project for children to be involved in coming up with an idea for their costume and helping to work out how to achieve it. The children will be moving around and being active so please ensure your child is wearing a sensible pair of shoes on the day. Thank you for your help with this project.
Clubs after Half Term
After half term, we are looking forward to our Friday sports club returning to Hyde Park. With the days getting longer, we are pleased to kick off the outdoor fun with three, weather permitting, fun-filled team sports sessions. As we anticipate a keen interest from pupils wishing to join this club, places will be allocated to existing Gym Club members and those on the waiting list. It will be run directly after the school day by our new Head of Sports Mr Shanahan. While parents are welcome to watch the fun in the park, this is a supervised after-school activity, and collection is from school at 4:30 pm
