Milder temperatures and slightly longer days have come with the arrival of February. Our children have had a productive week at school as we head into the final week before the half-term break.

Junior One Parent Talks  

Once again, Junior One enjoyed welcoming two of the mummies into the class to visit the children. The pupils were delighted to role play as nurses and hairdressers as well as asking excellent questions. They enjoyed creating new hairstyles for Mrs Wells and taking turns looking after each other as nurses. We look forward to inviting more parents in the coming weeks. 

Quiz Club General Knowledge Championships 

Our budding young General Knowledge enthusiasts participated in the Quiz Club National Key Stage Two Championships on Tuesday at The Hall School. The team were asked thirty questions ranging in difficulty. They had to identify the work of Van Gogh, work out which of the gas planets was the densest and the century in which Queen Victoria died. After the scores were added up, the team answered 25 questions correctly and attained second place. Congratulations to the team comprising of Alexander F3, Atia F4, Mimi F5 and Eleanor F6. 

ISA Young Musician Competition 

Mimi in Form Five made us exceptionally proud on Wednesday, delivering her piece at the ISA music competition with great poise and confidence. The event featured a strong lineup of performers, with Mimi standing out among the 15 finalists chosen from over 200 submissions. We are extremely thrilled with Mimi's accomplishment and proud of her impressive performance. 

The Cicero Cup Debating Competition

Six pupils from Form Six headed to Francis Holland School in Sloane Square for The Cicero Cup Debating Competition. Eight teams competed in a three-hour event with several pertinent issues under the microscope. These included whether footballers are paid too much and if we should welcome humanoid robots into our homes. Well done to Eleanor who was named the top debater in her group, and also to Luca, Ella, Emma, Aurelia and Christina who performed admirably and overcame nerves to articulate their arguments in front of a live audience. The teams didn’t make it through to the semi-finals, but many of them will be heading to Kensington next week for the Queen’s Gate Debating tournament where CHS are defending champions.

Junior One Pizza Express Trip 

Our youngest pupils went on a delightful journey to Pizza Express in St Christopher Place to become chefs for the morning to craft their very own pizza. They left the school full of smiles as they went on their way. They returned, filled with joy and a sense of accomplishment from their pizza-making adventure with a full belly. 

Open Swim Form Four, Five & Six

We hope the parents that joined us from Forms 4 - 6 this afternoon enjoyed the trip to Kensington Leisure Centre to observe their child’s swimming lesson today. The pupils have worked hard over the past term and a half and were excited to demonstrate all that they have learnt. Drills developing their front crawl and backstroke were observed, followed by water safety and life-saving skills complete with a rescue mission to save the manikin from the water. 

Forms Two and Three will take the plunge into the swimming lanes after the half-term, beginning on Friday 23 February. Please make sure that the children are fully equipped with their bottle green swimming costume, swimming cap, goggles and a towel. We appreciate your ongoing support in fostering our pupils' aquatic skills and confidence.

Upcoming

Parent Meetings 5 & 6 February 

You should have all received your invitations to in-person parent meetings on Monday, 5th, and Tuesday, 6th February. We are well aware that we tend to be chatterboxes, often running over our allotted 15-minute meeting slots. To keep things on track, we've decided to take stricter measures regarding timekeeping. Please note that once your 15 minutes are up, our fabulous assistants, Miss Pluskowska, Miss Moreno and Ms Harford, have been instructed to step in and usher in the next set of parents. We sincerely hope these measures will ensure a smooth and enlightening evening for everyone.

Form Six will not have their Parent Meetings next week but after half term, please expect an email nearer to the date. 

CHS Carnival 

This coming Friday (the 9th) is Carnival Day at school! Pupils will participate in creative and team-building activities in small groups based on the theme "The Natural World." Encourage them to dress up creatively, reflecting nature – from simple outfits like shades of blue to represent a river, to elaborate costumes like plants or volcanoes. No need to buy costumes; let imagination and creativity shine. Children will be active, so ensure they wear sensible shoes. Enjoy the fun and let the pupils take the lead in creating their costumes.
